The drive from South Maui to West Maui will take you by Maalaa Harbor. This marina is where most tours originate and is home to the Maui Aquarium and Marineg Center. Further up you will pass many smaller quiet beaches used mostly by locals and surfers. At mile marker 19 is Olowalu, a well protected barrier reef that extends ovar a mile. The coral mazes here are fasinating and easy to navigate. Most surfing lessons are taught at the beaches just south of Lahaina.

West Maui is where you will find most of the big resorts and with it many tourists who prefer the amenities and services that the higher end hotels can provide. There are plenty of beautiful beaches on the west shore like Kapalua ,Napili , Ka'anapali Bay. Just remember the popular beaches fill up quickly, so get to your favorite beach early. My favorite west beach is Kahekili which has excellent snorkeling, plenty of parking, and picnic tables with BBQs. For more exploring try hiking through the Honolua Bay forest or up to the Nakalele Blowhole.

DT Fleming Park is the most popular family beach on the island. The park offers plenty of parking, picnic tables, barbecue pits, rest rooms, and a life guard station. While the snoreling isn't that good the beach is great for boogie boarding, swimming or just hiking along the shoreline.

Make sure to visit Lahaina to shop and and enjoy some of he island's best entertainment and cuisine. Lahaina with its abundance of art galleries, restaurants, shops, and night life, has made it the most popular tourist town on the island.

South Maui Lava Field

West Maui has some of the best snorkeling on the island. Most beaches are well protected from the swells and have sandy bottoms making them suitable for beginners.
